City of Harper Woods School District Tyrone Elementary Annual Education Report

August 19, 2011

Dear Parents and Community Members:We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2010-2011 educational progress for Tyrone Elementary.  The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws.  The school’s report contains information about student assessment, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality.  If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Ms. Cheryl VanDerlinden, Tyrone Elementary Principal, for assistance.

The AER is available for you to review electronically by clicking here or you may review a copy by visiting the main office at Tyrone Elementary and asking to review it with the Principal.  For 2010-2011, Tyrone Elementary made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in English language arts and mathematics.  While we are pleased to have reached this important goal, we are continuously working to improve.  We appreciate the continued support of parents, staff and our community in this effort.

We look forward to the continued success of our students during the 2011-12 school year.   To support their success, a new math structure that will deliver the grade level curriculum in mathematics under a differentiated instruction format will be implemented for each Tyrone Student.   In addition, enhanced instruction in science will also be provide to the students of Tyrone.   Finally, we will also offer expanded programming after school so as to provide a greater variety of enrichment opportunities for our students.  We are excited about the positive impact these learning opportunities will have on our students.

State law requires that we also report additional information.

1.             Harper Woods School District has a registration process which can be found on the school web site.  Registration packets are available for parents to pick up at all buildings.  The packets clearly list all the documentation parents must provide to enroll their child.  Parents may drop off their completed registration packet at any of the schools in the district.  For direct enrollment assistance, please contact our Student Services Office at 313-245-3037.    Student Services Staff will be happy to answer your questions and assist you with the registration process.

2.             Tyrone Elementary School has been an accredited school for over 20 years, first starting with North Central Accreditation and now with Advance Ed.  Currently Tyrone is working on 3 goals in the area of reading, math, and writing.
