Despite our efforts to be fiscally responsible, the fact remains that Harper Woods School District - like every other public school district in the state of Michigan - faced a tidal wave of funding cutbacks in 2009/2010.  In addition to the $165 cut that every public school received, we also received an additional cut of $323, for a total cut per student of $488 for the 2009/2010 fiscal year.  Looking to the future, to fiscal year 2010/2011, unless the economy suddenly recovers and revenues improve; this district faces hard choices.

With these choices on the horizon, the Harper Woods School District is reaching out to our community to cultivate and explore new ideas for cost savings and revenue enhancements that can be explored by administration.  Please submit your ideas to
michelle.schurman@hwoods.k12.mi.us for the district to investigate.  If you would prefer to submit your ideas confidentially, please consider mailing it to Harper Woods Schools, Attn: Michelle Schurman, 20225 Beaconsfield, Harper Woods MI, 48225. Working together, we can make a difference for our students.

As Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

We appreciate your continued support.
